Updated: Jun 23, 2021

In the second episode of Bach@Home dedicated to the childhood and youth of Fryderyk Chopin, you will learn about his time in the country side, where Chopin heard folk music for the first time. You will be taken by his sense of humor in the Szafarnia Courier, letters that Chopin wrote to his parents in the form of a newspaper, elevating egg hatching to the level of national news. You will learn about the musical Jewish community in the Mazovia region, where the idea of mazurka was born. Finally, you will hear the Mazurka op. 17 no. 4, which Chopin published already in Paris, with great hopes of returning to his beloved Poland. Aside from the performance, you will learn about the compositional techniques Chopin employs in the Mazurkas - he wrote these throughout his life.
